Enhanced Recovery After Surgery: Overcoming Barriers to Implementation
Rajiv Gala, MD
Dr. Gala obtained his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he remained to complete his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency in 2004. While at UAB, he served as the Administrative Chief Resident from 2003-2004 and was awarded the Organon Resident Research Award for Outstanding Research in Women’s Health upon graduation. He subsequently joined the Gynecology Division at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX where he served as Lead Gynecologist for Parkland Memorial Hospital from 2007-2008.
Ochsner recruited Dr. Gala in 2008 to join the Ochsner Ob/Gyn Department. He has been the Residency Program Director since 2009 and was appointed to serve as the Department Vice-Chairman in 2015. In 2015, he was invited to serve on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Ob/Gyn Review Committee and was appointed as the Vice-Chair in 2018.
Dr. Gala has been actively involved with a number of the major subspecialty organizations in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Gala has served on 14 different committees for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and currently serves on the CREOG Exam Writing Committee. Since 2013, he has been an oral board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and currently serves on the Certifying Exam Writing Committee. And finally, he has been very involved with the Society for Gynecologic Surgeons and currently National Past-President (2019-2020).
