Dr. Richter was the Principal Investigator of the NIDDK-sponsored Urinary Incontinence Treatment Network and is PI of the NICHD-sponsored Pelvic Floor Disorders Network since its inception in 2001. She oversees other NIH (R01) and industry sponsored research. She was also the recipient of a 10 year mid-career award (K24, NIDDK) in patient oriented pelvic floor research and mentors many investigators. Dr Richter has received numerous awards and is involved in didactic and research initiatives with residents, medical students, and fellows. She has authored over 300 peer-reviewed papers. She is past President of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons and currently Vice President of the American Uroggynecologic Society. She currently serves as an Editor for International Urogynecology Journal and Obstetrics and Gynecology (green journal).
Dr. Richter has a strong interest in treating vesicovaginal fistulas and has visited Africa regularly over the past 12 years, and serves on the Board of Directors of the World Wide Fistula Fund. In 2010, the National Association for Continence acknowledged the UAB as the first Center of Excellence in the United States, which was renewed in 2014.
